Exhibition „Awakening”
February 10, 2023
SC “Galerija Centrs”, the 3rd floor 10/02 – 15/05
Inhale, … exhale, … inhale … As your false self disappears and your essence manifests more fully, you will no longer apologize for who you are. This is not because you have more control over your life, quite the opposite! You are now at the point of experiencing life.
Greater compassion for others and at the same time an understanding of living in harmony with yourself. You will meet people who will help you grow and see deeper. Take a look around you!
The artist Gunta Lante learns about the world through people, humanity and inhumanity. The human body is like a “language” whose vocabulary is as extensive as possible and which is also deeply explored in the painter’s works. By exploiting the depiction of naked bodies to the maximum, Gunta argues that man is essentially naked in this world – defenceless and unadorned. Man came into the world and goes naked – nature intended man to be true (i.e. naked, without “extras”), with the ability to feel, sense and behave accordingly – the highest achievement of all creatures.
On the other hand, the cycle of the creative process of Krišjāņas Mežuļis “Impersonal” consists of a series of individual works whose main object of research is a person – a person and the parts that make up ideas. These works show the forms of people and the spaces in which they exist as one. One in nature and form, without consciousness or purpose. Perhaps this helps to see the truth that lies behind the different layers, behind what creates false ideas and beliefs. The shape of the face as a means of communication. A language that needs no sound… First contact and look…
The person in Svetlana Savelieva’s work “Depression” is an anthropomorphic character through which the viewer can understand the symptoms of depression. This work is an attempt to represent the intangible – suffering, powerlessness and loneliness – in the physical-material, heterogeneous silicone. The inner light of the figure is the regenerative power that is genetically anchored in every living being. The characters represented in the artworks are abstract human portraits. The filigree and intricate structure is made of wires and their connections, just like the network of cells in living beings.
Take another look around! Listen… But don’t confuse the path of your growth with the “dream life”, which is superficial and shallow.
In collaboration with „Butterman” – Santa Matule, Simona Veilande, Renāte Vītola, Ineta Urtāne
